PennyTalkYour money is your business
PennyTalk never collects your financial data or your voice. Your transactions stay on your device and in your own private iCloud — never on our servers. There are no accounts and no bank logins. The only information we collect is a small number of anonymous app-usage events, which help us improve the app and are never linked to you.
What this means for you
- On your device and in your private iCloud. Your expense and income records are stored on your device. If you use iCloud, they are also backed up and synced through your own private iCloud account, managed by Apple. We never receive them, and they are never stored on our servers.
- Voice privacy. Speech recognition runs entirely on your device. Audio is never uploaded, and it is discarded after your words are transcribed. Your voice never leaves your phone.
- Anonymous usage only. We count a small number of anonymous app events — for example, that a feature was opened or whether an entry was understood — to help us improve PennyTalk. These are never linked to you and never include your financial data, your transactions, or your voice.
- No tracking, no ads. PennyTalk does not track you across other apps or websites, shows no ads, and never sells your data.
- Yours to take with you. Export everything to a spreadsheet anytime, free.
What we collect — and what we never collect
What we collect: Anonymous usage data only (product interaction) — a small set of counters such as an app open, a feature being used, or whether a spoken entry was understood. This is gathered through a privacy-focused analytics service (TelemetryDeck), is not linked to your identity, and is not used to track you.
What we never collect:
- Personal information (name, email, phone number)
- Financial data (account numbers, transaction amounts, notes, or categories)
- Voice recordings or transcripts (voice is processed on-device and discarded)
- Precise location
- Advertising identifiers or cross-app tracking data
iCloud sync
If you have iCloud enabled, PennyTalk backs up and syncs your data across your own devices using Apple’s iCloud (CloudKit) in your private database. This data lives in your personal Apple account, governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. The developer has no access to it. If you prefer to keep data only on your device, you can turn iCloud off in your device settings.
Your data, your control
Because your financial data stays with you, you remain in complete control:
- Export your data anytime, free, using the app’s CSV export feature
- Delete all local data by deleting the app; remove synced data by managing PennyTalk in your iCloud settings
- No one else has access to your financial information
- Your financial data cannot be exposed by a breach of our servers, because we hold none of it
Third-party services
PennyTalk uses Apple’s iCloud for your private backup and sync, and TelemetryDeck for anonymous usage analytics. It integrates with no advertising networks and no other third-party services. It does not use cookies or advertising identifiers.
Changes to this policy
Any changes to this privacy policy will be updated on this page and, where relevant, in the app. Our core commitment — never collecting your financial data or your voice — will not change.
